~一方で
~ippou de
while, on the other hand
When to use it
Use ~一方で to present two contrasting or coexisting facts within a single sentence — typical in reports, analyses, and email where you need to balance a positive against a negative (or vice versa). It is more neutral and more written than ~けど/~のに, and unlike ~に対して it can contrast two aspects of the same subject. In meetings it works well for framing trade-offs ("we're cutting costs, but at the same time...").
