When to use it

Use ～はさておき when you want to explicitly shelve one topic in order to move to a more pressing one — typically to steer a meeting back on track, or in email/reports to signal that a side issue won't be settled here. It is a notch more formal and more deliberate than ～はともかく or ～は別として, and it implies the set-aside item is genuinely postponed rather than dismissed. Very common in the fixed openers 冗談はさておき and 前置きはさておき.

Formation

Noun + はさておき：値段はさておき／その件はさておき
Verbs / i-adj / na-adj cannot attach directly; nominalize first:
- 〜か(どうか)はさておき：間に合うかどうかはさておき
- 〜のはさておき：安いのはさておき
Noun+である is possible in stiff written style：適法であるかはさておき
Variants: はさておいて (slightly softer, more spoken), はさておくとして (hedged, written). Emphatic はひとまずさておき.
The clause after it normally states what should be dealt with instead, often with まず／とりあえず／本題に入る.
