Formation

For verbs:

  • Dictionary form + ため(に)
    • 売上を増やす → 売上を増やすため(に)
    • hanbai wo fueru → hanbai wo fueru tame(ni)

For adjectives (i-adjective):

  • い → い + ため(に)
    • 高い → 高いため(に)
    • takai → takai tame(ni)

For nouns:

  • Noun + の + ため(に)
    • プロジェクト → プロジェクトのため(に)
    • purojekuto → purojekuto no tame(ni)

Usage Notes

  • ため (without に) = emphasizes the reason/purpose; more formal
  • ため(に) (with に) = adds direction/movement toward goal; natural in sentences
  • In business: use ～ため(に) for clarity and professionalism

Examples

  • To increase sales, we're expanding the sales team.

  • In order to achieve the project goal, please submit an improvement proposal by next week.

  • We plan to implement this system in order to improve efficiency.

  • Because costs are high, we need to adjust the budget.
